I am happy to continue to be a part of the MHA and I will do my part to encourage anyone who is willing to serve as a volunteer in this progressive organization.”
Mr. Roy McDonald succeeds Mrs. Griffith Joseph as the new President. Speaking about the goals for the upcoming year, Mr. McDonald said, “This year the hospitality association is promoting the Calabash Festival and the drive to create standards for the hospitality sector with the objective of increasing the money that is spent on the island by tourists. We recognize the financial impact of the tourism economy and are determined to create a hospitality sector to rival any in the Caribbean.”
In addition to the election of new officers, the members elected four persons to Honorary Membership. This inaugural honorary membership, granted in recognition of contributions to the Montserrat hospitality industry, was awarded to Rose Willock, Vereen Woolcock, Denise Phillip, and Piyko Williams. These Honorary Members have made significant gifts of their time to the tourism and hospitality industries of Montserrat through their support of the Festival and Calabash Committees as well as other hospitality related events.
The mission of the Montserrat Hospitality Association is to bring together the hospitality industry as a unified body to present the exciting, friendly and unique magic of Montserrat. The MHA and its members have a number of events planned for the coming months including an Earth Day Beach Cleanup on Saturday, April 21 and the annual Calabash Festival which runs from July 15 through 22.
